The Hughston Studio, a 500 square foot brownstone apartment, consolidates a full-range of domestic activities (living, dining, sleeping, and dressing) behind a curtained “closet.” A series of Teflon treated fabric panels slide on tracks, concealing storage, from pots and pans to clothing. At night, the curtains part to reveal a cozy Murphy bed lined in mahogany.
A matching mahogany L-shaped panel pivots within an aluminum frame that slides along an inset floor track directly in front of the expanse of gold curtains. In the vertical position, this panel creates a shallow shelf; when lowered, it forms a sliding work surface that functions as kitchen counter, dining table, or desk.
